 The Museum's Mission Statement:
To acquire, conserve, research and exhibit Earth Science materials, and to communicate information on these and on Earth Science topics, for purposes of study, education and enjoyment both for members of the University of Western Australia and for the wider community.
 The Museum is located in the picturesque grounds of the University of Western Australia, near Winthrop Hall. It was named in 1963 in honour of Edward de Courcy Clarke, the second Professor of Geology at the University. Step back in time as you pass through an "Eocene Grove" at the entrance of the Museum. This garden consists entirely of plant varieties known to have flourished in Australia 38-55 million years ago. As you enter the Museum you will be transported even further back in time to the birth of our planet some 4,600 million years ago.
The Museum has two main functions:
Firstly, as a repository of mineral, rock, fossil and meteorite specimens of scientific importance to be used for teaching and research. The collections include over 142,000 registered specimens, some dating back to the nineteenth century. Researchers deposit their specimens so that future workers can use them for comparison, or find out even more using modern techniques.
Secondly, as an exhibition area for students and the public, to stimulate and satisfy their interest in Earth Science. The Museum's highly informative, pictorial displays are well received by students of all ages from Year 3 to Year 12.

The Tower of Time
On normal weekdays, but not on Sundays, the Rock and Mineral Gallery of reference specimens and a large display of W.A's Economic Minerals can be accessed in the Geology foyer.
