Earth Science units can be included in many science and engineering degrees. Choose from a large number of Earth Science majors, or if you wish, study a double Science major, a BA, or a “combined degree” as listed below. With a BSc degree, you decide your direction of study after completing relevant first year units. Even if you prefer another science major, doing first year Earth Science is valuable because it is a practical and integrated subject which includes aspects of other physical and biological sciences. Our laboratory sessions and field trips are enjoyable “hands-on” experiences and a great way to meet other students. BSc/BA majors are diverse to match careers in Earth Science. The degree emphasises transferable scientific skills which will enable you to apply your knowledge to a broad range of work environments throughout your career. As well as essential and well-rewarded careers in the minerals and energy industries and in agriculture, our graduates enjoy working in environmental science consultancies, science teaching, and research organisations including government agencies (such as CSIRO) and departments (such as the Department of Environment and Conservation and the Department of Agriculture and Food), and in universities and museums, both here and overseas. Our School also includes all aspects of Geography, so as well as Geography majors within the BSc, Geography majors within Bachelor of Arts degrees are also possible. Human Geography is concerned mainly with the spatial organisation of human activity, including culture, society, politics, history and economics. It is also concerned with the way in which people interact with the natural environment. Human Geographers in particular play a role in urban and regional planning, economic development, politics and foreign affairs, social policy, and environmental management. Interested in finding out more about Earth Science courses? As well as checking out www.fnas.uwa.edu.au for Faculty advice about UWA courses, you can contact the School of Earth & Environment directly via www.see.uwa.edu.au. You can also pick up handouts (and talk to the Curator) when you visit our Earth Science Museum! EXPO Every year, normally towards the end of August, UWA runs EXPO, which is an open day for prospective students and the community: we welcome visitors of all ages. Enjoy finding out about some of the interesting things which go on at UWA and have a look around some of the facilities, as well as talk to students and staff about courses and career paths. A programme with a timetable of all the course information talks and events during the day is enclosed with copies of the West Australian Newspaper the weekend before. We recommend you visit EXPO! |
