Edward de Courcy Clarke Earth Science Museum

Friends of the Museum

Friends of the MuseumThe “Friends of the E. de C. Clarke Earth Science Museum” group has been in existence since the end of 1990, shortly after the refurbished Museum was opened. It was formed as a result of many requests from interested visitors inspired by the new Museum.

The “Friends” is made up of a wide range of people of varying ages and skills, but linked by their common interest in Earth Science. They are actively involved in increasing public awareness of the science of geology and the existence of the Museum, chiefly by voluntarily staffing it from 2pm until 5 pm every Sunday afternoon, and by helping in other ways.

Friends on Museum dutyA newsletter including geological articles keeps members informed about talks, workshops, outings and field trips. Members each pay $2 at talks and workshops to help cover our group insurance, but otherwise there are no fees and it is free to join.

Unless you wish to help in other ways, perhaps by assisting with curation or the construction of displays, or by giving a donation, you will need to choose one or two Sunday afternoons a year when you will staff the Museum for three hours so it can be enjoyed by visitors. The Security staff see to the opening and locking up of the Museum and can assist with any problems during your session.

Friends on RottnestField trips are at members (and the Curator's!) own expense, although we try to keep costs down and the emphasis is on enjoyment. Rather than being simple collecting trips, our excursions are stimulating experiences during which we discover not only some of the interesting rocks and minerals of our State, but also how they relate to our dynamic Earth and its processes in Space and Time.

See the latest Newsletter for a sample of our activities. Use Adobe Reader to open the pdf file below.

Any queries about the Friends can be directed to the Curator (see details on this website), to Allan Hart 0401 612 505 allan.hart.perth@hotmail.com who does the roster, or to Mignonne Clark 9341 6746 sacko@multiline.com.au .
