Visiting the Museum

Where are we?

map of campus northThe Museum is part of the School of Earth & Environment at the University of Western Australia, and is housed in the Geology end of the Geology/Geography building at the north end of the University's main riverside campus in Crawley, just behind the clock tower of Winthrop Hall.

Map of Crawley Campus.

If driving, enter via Entrance 1 off Fairway, and follow the ring road: just after a zebra crossing there is a right turn into a big square car park with trees: this is the Art Gallery Carpark 20 and you can use the ticket parking immediately to the left. From there you can see the white-painted back of the Geology/Geography building and walk through to the back door under the verandah: the Museum door is immediately to your left.

Alternatively use the main Porch Entrance on the North end of the building, opposite the Sunken Garden, or find the front entrance of Geology and walk through the foyer almost to the back door. On Sundays, only the Porch Entrance is open. Parking is free after 5 pm and at weekends, so use any except reserved or service bays.

Buses which pass the campus include numbers 23, 102, 107 and 78 from the City via the riverside; 24 and 103 from the City via Kings Park Road; Circle Route 98 and 99; and 97 from Subiaco.

NB: 78 only operates during UWA semester times.

When are we open?

The Curator normally works from 8.45am to 5.15pm every weekday, is away for lunch around 12.30pm to 1.30pm, and can be contacted by email, fax or telephone during these times, or you can leave a voicemail message. The Museum is open to the public:

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays      9.30am-5.00pm (closed over lunch)

Sundays                                            2.00pm-5.00pm (main display area only)

If you plan a special visit, please contact the Curator to check that she will be there and the Museum will be open: when the Curator is absent for any reason the Museum is closed.

Is there an entrance fee?

No, the Museum is free, although some group visits requiring special activities will attract a small charge.

What about disabled access and toilets?

The Museum's Porch and rear entrances are fine for disabled access. Toilets are nearby on campus.

IMPORTANT

When the Curator is unavailable (at lunch, on leave, sick or at meetings) the Museum and Honours Library are closed.

You can contact the School Administration on 6488 2666 if your matter is very urgent, otherwise leave a message on my voicemail or send an email for me to attend to when I get back.
